To paint the most complete picture of North Carolina’s Research Triangle, Rimini Protokoll collaborated with Carolina Performing Arts and Carolina Demography (part of UNC’s Carolina Population Center) to compile a statistics-informed casting chart. This chart pulled from three counties: Wake, Durham, and Orange. Using data from the 20–21 American Community Survey (ACS), conducted by the US Census Bureau, Rimini Protokoll and a team of casting coordinators, led by Myra Weise of Proxemic Media, worked for several months to gather a cast that represents a vibrant, human cross-section of the area.

The cast for 100% The Triangle was apportioned according to six ACS-provided variables: sex, age, race/ethnicity, living arrangement, nativity, and relative share of the county population. As with any data set, the ACS contains limitations. For example, the survey only collects data on sex, and does not include information on gender identity; cohabitating partners are underrepresented. Rimini Protokoll recognizes these limitations, among others, and has implemented active procedures to ensure a truly representative casting process.

To inform the community about the statistical basis for this production, Carolina Demography has prepared a methodological memo. Read the memo below to learn more:
